Join our BAC MN/ND Apprenticeship Center Team!

The Minnesota and North Dakota Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Journeyworker and Apprentice Training Trust Fund is seeking to hire a Manager of Operations at our training center in New Hope, Minnesota. 

GENERAL ROLE 

The BAC Apprenticeship Program is an apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and Industry, State of Minnesota (the "BAC Apprenticeship Program"), providing apprenticeship training in Bricklayer, Tile Finisher/Layer, Pointer-Cleaner-Caulker, Terrazzo Finisher, and other allied trades under the jurisdiction of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 1 Minnesota/North Dakota/South Dakota (the "BAC Trades").  

The Manager of Operations of the BAC Apprenticeship Program has the responsibility for the operations of the BAC Apprenticeship Program consistent with the policies established by the Board of Trustees of the BAC Apprentice Fund. The Manager of Operations reports to the Board of Trustees of the BAC Apprentice Fund.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement the policies as determined by the Board of Trustees for the effective operations of the BAC Apprenticeship Program.
  • Supervise and oversee instruction provided for Journeyworker upgrades, including curriculum.
  • Assure compliance with the Standards of Apprenticeship adopted by the BAC Apprenticeship Fund.
  • Assure compliance with the requirements of the Minnesota Department of Labor for an apprenticeship program.
  • Serve as the designated "Coordinator of Apprentices" for the purposes of the Minnesota Department of Labor, which includes:
    • Maintaining an adequate record of progress in training each apprentice; and, 
    • Assuring that the requirements of the applicable learning program are met during the prescribed training term.
  • Supervise and manage the employees of the BAC Apprentice Fund, with authority to hire, discipline, and dismiss employees. All employees of the BAC Apprentice Fund report to the Manager of Operations. 
  • Provide for the proper maintenance and oversight of the training facility located at 5420 International Parkway, New Hope, Minnesota. 
  • Prepare an annual operating budget for approval by the Board of Trustees and manage the BAC Apprenticeship Program within the approved budget. 
  • Maintain proper financial books and records for annual audits.
  • Handle training requests from signatory contractors. 
  • Work with the International Masonry Institute ("IMI") on training offered by the IMI.
  • Recruitment.
  • Organize and manage outreach opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Trustees of the BAC Apprenticeship Fund for the effective development and operation of the BAC Apprenticeship Program. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum educational background: High School diploma or GED.
  • BAC Union member, or substantial familiarity with the BAC Trades.
  • Management experience.
  • Proven ability to create and administer budgets and build spreadsheets.
  • Proficient with computer skills and the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient with social media skills and the use of Facebook and Twitter.
  • Proven ability to write and communicate effectively including email communications.
  • The following are desired but not required:
    • Teaching experience;
    • Accounting experience;
    • Journeyworker experience in the BAC Trades; and,
    • Ability to fill-in as an instructor when needed.

COMPENSATION

  • Full time salaried position. Compensation based on 45-hour work week at Metro Journeyworker Bricklayer scale wages, together with fringe benefits payable for a Metro Journeyworker Bricklayer.
